What a fun...but LLOONNGG 4th of July.
We Celebrated the whole week it felt like!
It was so much fun though!!
I'm glad we are in a place where there is a bunch of people around to do things with!
To start things off we first went up camping.
ACTUALLY...We needed to first get a tent so we could go camping! haha {It's a weird feeling when you realize that everything you love to do you are only able to do because your parents supplied you with the things you needed...like a tent, air mattress, and sleeping bags...} Thankfully it was the 4th of July weekend so Dicks Sporting goods was having a sale. BARGIN SHOPPER!! We got a 4 person tent for 30 bucks. Can't get any better than that. Well we could have but we don't need a huge tent. Since i'm sort of a blanket-a-holic, we decided against the sleeping bags and air mattress for now. We'd lay down 5 or so of my million blankets then throw a blanket or two over top of us. It wasn't mountain camping or anything, so we didn't have to worry about that crisp morning dew...just the always around, always present humidity...
These two little girls were my campfire buddies. They sat on my lap all night. We discussed stars, shooting stars, heaven, birthdays, birthday toys, birthday parties, invisible toys, and games.
We went camping at a place called "Racoon Creek State Park". There was a lake there that everyone {everyone being um....a bunch of people from the ward who ended up going camping. Let's see, to name those I remember...Callister's, Mock's, Gherin's, Keith's, Balkman's, Gardner's, Thomas's, Wilde's, Johnson's, Harris's, Secrest's, Jensen's, Custer's [So many of us...it was awesome!]} went down to the lake. It was fun playing in the water. It took a while for me to get in...one being it was cold. {yes I am my mother's daughter...I do get cold when it is 80 degrees outside} two because of my stinking ocd of not being able to see the bottom. Yeah I know. I'm crazy. What can I say. Oh and bonus...I even had a modest swim suit on. Ahhhh Emily is growing up. Surprised?
AHHH!!! This is what Tyson felt like after spending two weeks back in the "nice" humid weather here. Soooooo He begged me to shave it off. I was sad. :( I was getting sort of excited to see his long hair come back. {Anyone who knew Tyson in the early years of us dating would know what I ment. I was totally attracted to him for 3 reasons. 1. The way he treated a girl. 2. His blue eyes. 3. His long surfer hairstyle look. Unbelievably attractive...}
"The Smoulder..." Familiar with Disneys Tangled? Apparently Tyson thinks Ryder is the most clever guy ever. He quotes him on a daily basis.
See those little curls above his ears? I was so excited to see them again! His whole head starts to look like all those little curls when his hair is long...oh well...
We cut off 4 inches of hair. But here's to the new look {again just like last year at this time} of Tyson!
Monday July 4th! We celebrated by going to a baseball game... The old American pastime... doesn't get any more patriotic than that! Oh yes...and the Pirates totally won. Happy 4th of July!
After the Baseball game we stayed downtown at all the festivities. They had a bunch of things going on out at 3 points. Cool trick skiers, and the regatta races. (we totally saw a crash...not something to be proud of...but it keeps things interesting!)
Then out of no where a HUGE thunderstorm storm hit!! We ran out and hid under a bridge. I kept wondering what would have happened if lightning would have hit that bridge, thankfully though we didn't find out.
Ah...but the storm finally cleared up and everyone went on with the night.
{ugh...by the end of the day I felt like I was just a sweaty ball of mess. Between the rain, humid, and heat I was quite the sight. After looking at this picture I'm slightly embarrassed that I hung out all day looking like that. I don't think I'll ever get used to the weather here.}
There was one more flash storm that hit before the fireworks went off, and again we hid from the storm. But, the storm passed again, and we were able to enjoy the fireworks!
I have never experienced anything cooler than these fireworks. They we AMAZING!! {but then again I grew up just going to Weber Highs fireworks...so it wouldn't really take much to impress me.} I've seen Hawaii's 4th of July and these came in really close in coolness. However I'm going to have to give Hawaii's a better rating because they played patriotic music during the fireworks. I was sort of disappointed that Pittsburgh didn't play better music. Kind of sad. Oh well. Behind us there was a group of Australians hanging out. They kept talking about how us Americans would cause such a big fuss over these fireworks and for this day. I wanted to turn around and tell them just what this day ment. That this day celebrates our independance. . .our freedom.
I was kind of stressing about being downtown for the fireworks. So many people, and so many people trying to get home after the fireworks...I thought traffic was bad on a normal day. I didn't even want to imagine what traffic would be like after this. Amazingly It wasn't to bad. It was bad getting out of the parking garage, but once we were on the street, it was easy to get home. Our discussion on the way home was about demalition derbys...
Thanks to the Mocks, I found out about a county fair about an hour north of us. I was totally psyched about going! There was going to be a demo derby.. .. Tyson and I were just talking about going to to. Amazing.
Never in my life did I expect to watch a demo derby here. haha. Who knew! It was definatly smaller than the ones at home...a lot smaller...but it was soooo fun! I love these type of things. I love it that Tyson likes it so much too. Oh he has now informed me that once he's a doctor he's not only going to build crawlers, but he's going to do demo derbys, His name will be bone crusher...then once he crushes them, they will have to come back to him to get fixed. Good grief.
It was quite the fair. Almost romantic. Super fun! {again there is me and my sweaty ball of matted hair and face.}
This week was so fun!! I wouldn't trade it for anything!! I'm still trying to recover from being on the go so much...
